Description

TheAsian (especiallyChinese and also sometimes described as "pan-Asian")[1][2] andvegan restaurant Jade Rabbit (formerly Ichiza Kitchen) operates insoutheast Portland'sBuckman neighborhood.[3]

The menu has includeddim sum such as bawan dumplings andcha siu bao,noodle soups, andrice noodles.[4] The Fiery Wind noodle soup has Lan Zhou broth with herbs such as ginger, Sichuan peppercorn, and star anise.[4]

History

Owner Cyrus Ichiza launched Ichiza Kitchen insouthwest Portland'sGoose Hollow neighborhood in 2017.[2][3] Like many restaurants, the business operated viadelivery andtake-out at times during theCOVID-19 pandemic.[5] In August 2020, Ichiza announced plans to open an eponymous restaurant as a spin-off of Ichiza Kitchen.[6][7]

Jade Rabbit later operated as a pop-up at Aimsir Distilling's Emerald Room in theKerns neighborhood.[8][9][10] It now operates at 23rd Avenue and Belmont Street in Buckman.[11] Jade Rabbit was a vendor at the inaugural Veganizer Asian Market in 2025.[12][13]

Ichiza and Ichiza Kitchen were featured in the bookEvolving Vegan.[14]

Anna Kot recommended Jade Rabbit inTasting Table's 2023 list of 25queer-owned vegan restaurants in the U.S.[15]

Waz Wu included Jade Rabbit inEater Portland's 2024 overview of the city's "most comforting" vegan noodle soups.[4] In 2025, the website's Anastasia Sloan and Seiji Nanbu included the business in overviews of Portland's nineteen best vegan restaurants and best Chinese food, respectively.[16][17]Eater Portland's Zoe Baillargeon also included Jade Rabbit in a 2025 list of the city's best new restaurants and food carts.[18]

Katherine Chew Hamilton included Jade Rabbit inPortland Monthly's 2024 overview of the city's best Chinese cuisine.[8] The business was ranked the fourth best vegan restaurant in thePortland metropolitan area inThe Oregonian's Readers Choice Awards in 2025.[1]
