Israel Alejandro Damonte (born 6 January 1982) is an Argentinefootball manager and former player who played as amidfielder. He is the current manager of Uruguayan clubBoston River.

Biography

Damonte was born inSalto, an important agricultural town in northernBuenos Aires Province.

Career

Damonte started his professional career playing withEstudiantes de La Plata in 2000. After not having much continuity, he was sent on loan toQuilmes for six months. Then he returned toEstudiantes till the end of 2003.

During 2004 to mid-2005, he remained playing forSan Martín de Mendoza.

In July 2005, he signed a new contract withArgentine Primera División sideGimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy where he played a total of 33 matches and scored 5 goals.

In May 2006, he signed a three-year deal with theMexican teamVeracruz.[1] Soon after not having much continuity with the first team, he was loaned for half a season toNueva Chicago.

In August 2007, Israel was transferred toArsenal de Sarandí, were his outstanding performances helped the team win the2007 Copa Sudamericana. He scored a goal in the round of 16 againstBrazilian clubGoiás. In January 2008, he signed a two years contract withSuper League Greece clubAsteras Tripoli.

In August 2010, Damonte joinedGodoy Cruz.[2] In January 2012, he signed forNacional.[3] In January 2013, he signed forEstudiantes.[4] In January 2018, he signed forHuracán.[5]

Coaching career

Damonte retired at the end of 2019 and on 2 January 2020, he was announced manager of his former club,Huracán.[6]
