Ilava (German:Illau,Hungarian:Illava) is a town in theTrenčín Region, northwesternSlovakia.
Themunicipality lies at analtitude of 313 metres (1,027 ft)[3] and covers anarea of 24.30 km2 (9.38 sq mi) (2024).[4]
The name is of uncertain origin. The historic medieval names wereLewe,Lewa (the same historic name asLevice),Lewa de cidca fluviom Vag, laterIlava.[5] The formIllava is known from the 19th century and was used after theAustro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867.[5]
