Idi is aPahoturi language spoken inWestern Province,Papua New Guinea. The so-called Pahoturi dialects form adialect chain with Idi proper at one end andAgob proper at the other.[1]
The language has been also known asDiblaeg,Dibolug,Dimisi,Dimsisi.[2]Taeme is a dialect distinct from Idi.[1]
Idi is in contact with other Papuan languages of different families, includingNen,Nambo, and the closely relatedAgob.[1]
/z/ may also freely be realized as affricates[dʒ,dz].

/ə/ may also be heard as[ɐ].
Idi has elaborate verbalmorphology, including complex marking ofverbal number.[5] Other noteworthy features, which it shares with other Pahoturi River languages, are the high frequency of analytic constructions (consisting of an uninflecting form plus an inflected auxiliary) in addition to directly inflected verbs, and an elaborate inventory ofcopulas.[6]
