Heosemys is agenus offreshwaterturtles ("terrapins" inBritish English) in thefamilyGeoemydidae (formerly called Bataguridae). The genusHeosemys was split out of the related genusGeoemyda by McDowell in 1964.

Some other species, initially placed here also, are now in different genera. TheSulawesi forest turtle is now classified underLeucocephalon, thePhilippine forest turtle underSiebenrockiella, and the Cochin Forestcane turtle underVijayachelys.
