HD 89345 b is a Neptune-like exoplanet that orbits aG-type star. It is also called K2-234b. Its mass is equivalent to 35.7 Earths, it takes 11.8 days to complete one orbit of its star, and is 0.105 AU away from its star. It was discovered by a team of 43 astrophysicists, one of which wasV. Van Eylen, and was announced in 2018.[1]
The exoplanet HD 89345 b, which has amass of 0.1MJ and aradius of 0.61RJ, was assigned to the class of oceanplanets. The parentstar of the planet, which is about 5.3 billionyears old, belongs to thespectral class ofG5V-G6V. It is 66 percent larger and 22 percent more massive than theSun, and is located 413light-years away. The effective temperature of the star is 5609K. Considering that HD 89345 b makes one revolution around thestar in 11.8 days at adistance of 0.11AU, this planet was described by researchers as a warm subterranean with anequilibrium temperature of 1059K.[2]
HD 89345 b, a Saturn-sizedexoplanet orbiting a slightly evolvedstar HD 89345, was discovered in 2018 using thetransitphotometry method, the process that detects distantplanets by measuring the minute dimming of astar as an orbitingplanet passes between it and theEarth. It is the onlyplanet orbiting around HD 89345, aG5 class star, situated in theconstellation ofLeo in 413light-years from theSun. Thisstar is aged 9.4 billion years. HD 89345 borbits itsstar in about 12 terrestrial days in anelliptical orbit. Theorbit is closer to thestar than the inner limit of the habitable zone. It has a lowdensity and can be composed of gas.
Its parentstar, HD 89345, is a brightstar (apparent magnitude 9.3) observed by the K2 mission with one-minute time sampling. It exhibits solar-likeoscillations. The data is collected byasteroseismology, which enables to determine the parameters of the star and find itsmass andradius. Itsmass is 1.12+0.04
−0.01M☉ and itsmean radius is 1.657+0.020
−0.004R☉. Thestar appears to have recently left the main sequence, based on the inferred age, 9.4+0.4
−1.3Gyr, and the non-detection of mixed modes. Thestar hosts a "warm Saturn" with an orbital period of approximately 11.8 days and a radius of6.86±0.14 R🜨.Radial-velocity follow-up observations performed with the FIES,HARPS, andHARPS-Nspectrographs show that theplanet has a mass of35.7±3.3 M🜨. The data also show that the planet's orbit iseccentric ().[3][4]
