Glavinitsa (Bulgarian:Главиница,pronounced[ɡɫɐˈvinit͡sɐ]; also transliteratedGlavinica orGlavinitza) is a town in northeasternBulgaria, part ofSilistra Province. It is the administrative centre ofGlavinitsa Municipality, which lies in the southwestern part of Silistra Province, in the historical region ofSouthern Dobruja. As of December 2009, the town had a population of 1,928.[1]
Glavinitsa is located in the easternDanubian Plain, on the road betweenDulovo andTutrakan. Its old name (until 1942) wasAsvatköy. Glavinitsa was proclaimed a town on 5 September 1984.
Glavinitsa Peak onFallières Coast inAntarctica is named after the village.[2]
