Gilmonby is a village in thePennines inCounty Durham, England.[1][2] it is situated a short distance to the south ofBowes, in the vicinity ofBarnard Castle. The population taken at the 2011 Census was less than 100. Information is kept in theBowes parish details. It istraditionally located in theNorth Riding of Yorkshire but along with the rest of the formerStartforth Rural District it was transferred toCounty Durham foradministrative andceremonial purposes on 1 April 1974, under the provisions of theLocal Government Act 1972.
