Fahrudin Jusufi (Serbian Cyrillic:Фахрудин Јусуфи,pronounced[fahrǔdinjǔsufi]; 8 December 1939 – 9 August 2019)[1] was a Yugoslavfootballer who most notably played forPartizan,Eintracht Frankfurt and theYugoslavia national team.[2]

Jusufi was born into anethnic Gorani family in the village ofZli Potok nearDragaš,Vardar Banovina,Kingdom of Yugoslavia. During his career, he played forFK Partizan,Eintracht Frankfurt,Germania Wiesbaden andFC Dornbirn, retiring in 1972. He was part of the Partizan squad when they became vice-champions of Europe after losing the1966 European Cup Final againstReal Madrid.[3]

International career

On the national level, Jusufi played forYugoslavia (55 matches),[4] and was a participant at the1962 FIFA World Cup and at the1960 Summer Olympics, where his team won the gold medal.[5]

Coaching career

After retiring, Jusufi went into coaching, mainly inWest Germany withSG Wattenscheid 09 in thesecond division, but also in1987–88 at the helm of Partizan.

He also coachedSchalke 04,1860 Munich and lastlyČelik Zenica.

Personal life and death

In a 1991 interview for Serbian bi-weeklyTempo, Jusufi was asked if he is "experiencing any problems in regards to the current political situation" and "due to his ethnicity." Jusufi replied, "Why would I be experiencing any problems? I'm aGorani, if that even interests anyone."[6]

His sonSascha was also a professional footballer.[7]

Jusufi died on 9 August 2019 at the age of 79 inHamburg,Germany.[8]
