Carlos Muñoz González (born 1991), better known by hisring nameDralístico,[a] is a Mexican second-generationluchadorenmascarado (maskedprofessional wrestler). He is signed toAll Elite Wrestling (AEW), where he is a member ofLa Facción Ingobernable. He is best known for his 11-year tenure withConsejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), originally working under thering nameDragon Lee, before he was given the ring name and mask ofMístico, after the originalMístico had left CMLL to work forWWE.

In CMLL, he is a one-timeCMLL World Tag Team Champion, a two-timeCMLL World Trios Champion, as well as a one-time holder of theCMLL World Welterweight Championship and theAzteca Championship. Additionally, he has also won the 2012Torneo Sangre Nueva tournament (as Dragon Lee), and the 2016CMLL Torneo Nacional de Parejas Increibles tournament (alongsideMephisto).

His father,Arturo Muñoz, is also a professional wrestler, best known by the ring names Poder Mexica, Toro Blanco and Comandante Pierroth, and is working under the ring name La Bestia del Ring. Místico's older brother is better known under the ring nameRush. Místico and Rush's younger brother debuted in November 2013, the latter taking over theDragon Lee ring name. He has also wrestled in Japan and Europe through CMLL's partnerships with other promotions such asRevolution Pro Wrestling andNew Japan Pro-Wrestling, as well as on the Mexicanindependent circuit.

Muñoz was originally trained inlucha libre (professional wrestling) by his fatherArturo Muñoz, brotherRush and unclesFranco Columbo, Pit Bull I, and Pit Bull II in his native Tala, Jalisco.[3] After two years of training,[3] he moved toMexico City to joinConsejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), where he underwent further training underArturo Beristain andTony Salazar.[1] Given amask and thering name Dragon Lee, he made his public debut on November 25, 2010, when he took part in CMLL's annual bodybuilding contest and won the beginner's category.[7] Dragon Lee made his wrestling debut on January 4, 2011, when he, working as atécnico, teamed withFabian el Gitano andStarman in a six-man tag team match, where they were defeated byArkangel de la Muerte,Boby Zavala andSkándalo.[4]

Lee started his career as a member of the informalGeneración 2011 group, which also included fellow debutants Zavala, Enrique Vera Jr.,Hombre Bala Jr.,Magnus,Signo Jr. andSuper Halcón Jr.[8] During the following months, Lee wrestled mainly in six-man tag team matches with and against his stablemates,[9][10] before being involved in first major program the following April, as he participated theForjando un Ídolo ("Forging an Idol") tournament.[11] With one win and two losses, Dragon Lee finished fourth in his block and failed to advance in the tournament.[3] On April 17, he picked up the biggest win of his young career by winning a ten-mantorneo cibernetico.[11] On May 31, Dragon Lee entered a tournament to determine the newCMLL World Super Lightweight Champion, but was eliminated in the semifinaltorneo cibernetico.[12] Lee received a title shot against the winner of the tournament,Virus, on November 28, but was unable to dethrone the defending champion.[13] On March 6, 2012, Dragon Lee entered theTorneo Sangre Nueva ("New Blood Tournament"), winning an eight-mantorneo cibernetico semifinal match.[14] On March 20, Lee defeatedRaziel in the finals to win the tournament.[15] On March 30, Dragon Lee entered the2012Torneo Gran Alternativa, teaming with his brother Rush. After victories over the teams of Boby Zavala andRey Bucanero, andNiebla Roja andÚltimo Guerrero, the brothers were eliminated in the semifinals byEuforia andEl Terrible, who won the tournament.[16][17] Lee's run of tournaments continued the following month with theEn Busca de un Ídolo tournament/reality television show,[18] where he finished third and narrowly missed advancing to the finals.[19][20]

Místico (2012–2021)

On June 20, 2012, CMLL held a press conference, during whichlucha libre priestFray Tormenta announced that since Dragon Lee had impressed him during theEn Busca de un Ídolo tournament, he wanted him to take over the role ofMístico, his storyline protégé.[21][22] Lee immediately accepted Tormenta's offer and received his new mask to officially become the second incarnation of Místico, taking over the highly successful role following the character's original performer, who had signed withWWE in January 2011.[6][21][22][23] Lee wrestled his final match under his old persona on June 24, when he,Diamante andTritón defeatedCancerbero, Niebla Roja and Raziel via disqualification. Afterwards, Roja attacked Lee, removed his mask and tore it to pieces.[24] For the next six weeks, Místico went on a publicity tour to promote the upcoming "new era" of Místico.[25][26][27]

The new Místico made his in-ring debut on August 3 on theSuper Viernes show in a six-man tag team match, where he teamed withÁngel de Oro andValiente to defeatEphesto, Euforia andMephisto.[28][29][30] The debut match caused a spike in CMLL attendance, drawing 12,600 fans toArena México.[31] The new Místico scored his first direct win the following day, pinning formerCMLL World Heavyweight Champion Último Guerrero in a six-man tag team match, where he teamed withAtlantis andTitán against Guerrero,Dragón Rojo Jr. andNegro Casas.[32] On September 30, Místico won his first title, when he defeated Último Guerrero and Atlantis in a three-way match to win theLucha Libre Azteca (LLA) Azteca Championship.[33][34] On November 12,New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW) announced that Místico would be making his Japanese debut atFantastica Mania 2013 in January 2013.[35] Later that same day, Místico was sidelined with an injury, after failing to properly execute ashooting star press, landing on his shoulder.[36]

Místico returned to the ring on January 8, 2013, when he,Máscara Dorada and Titán defeatedLos Hijos del Averno (Averno, Ephesto and Mephisto) in a six-man tag team main event.[37][38] The following day, during a match, where he, Atlantis andMarco Corleone faced Euforia, Último Guerrero andVolador Jr., Místico suffered yet another shoulder injury, following a failedspringboard dive, and was rushed to an emergency room.[39][40] On January 15, NJPW announced that Místico would be unable to wrestle at theFantastica Mania events due to a dislocated shoulder, but would still attend the events to sign autographs.[41] On January 18, during the first night of theFantastica Mania weekend, Místico made an appearance, greeting the fans in attendance atKorakuen Hall.[42] Místico returned to the ring on February 18, teaming withLa Máscara andLa Sombra in a six-man tag team match, where they defeatedLos Invasores (Kraneo,Psicosis and Volador Jr.).[43] On April 19, Místico took part in a ten-mantorneo cibernetico to determine the contenders for thevacantMexican National Welterweight Championship. He and Averno survived the match, setting up a title match between the two.[44] On April 26 at theArena Mexico 57th Anniversary Show, Místico was defeated by Averno in the match for the Mexican National Welterweight Championship.[45]

In May, Místico came together with Máscara Dorada and Valiente to form theLos Estetas del Aire ("The Air Aesthetics") stable with the three debuting identical masks, containing elements of each wrestler's own mask, in the process.[46][47][48] On May 12, Místico was stripped of the LLA Azteca Championship, after his title defense, a three-way match with La Sombra and Volador Jr., ended in a thirty-minute time limit draw.[49] On June 9,Los Estetas del Aire entered a tournament for the vacantCMLL World Trios Championship, first defeatingLos Invasores (Mr. Águila, Psicosis and Volador Jr.) in the quarterfinals and thenTRT (Rey Bucanero, El Terrible andTiger) in the semifinals to advance to the following week's tournament finals.[50][51] On June 16,Los Estetas del Aire defeatedLos Guerreros Laguneros (Euforia, Niebla Roja and Último Guerrero) to become the new CMLL World Trios Champions.[52][53] On September 13 at CMLL's80th Anniversary Show,Los Estetas del Aire successfully defended the CMLL World Trios Championship againstLos Revolucionarios del Terror (Dragón Rojo Jr.,Pólvora andRey Escorpión).[54][55][56] On January 14, 2014, during the opening event of theFantastica Mania 2014 tour, Místico made his Japanese in-ring debut, pinning Rey Escorpión to win a six-man tag team main event.[57][58][59] Four days later, in the main event of the fourth show of the tour, Místico unsuccessfully challenged Mephisto for theMexican National Light Heavyweight Championship.[60][61][62] Upon his return to Mexico, Místico won his first singles title in CMLL, when he, on February 16, defeated Pólvora for theCMLL World Welterweight Championship.[63] On March 28,Los Estetas del Aire lost the CMLL World Trios Championship toLos Guerreros Laguneros (Euforia, Niebla Roja and Último Guerrero).[64] On May 2, Místico was involved in a motorcycle accident in which he broke both thefibula andtibia in his right leg, forcing him to undergo surgery the following day.[65][66] During a press conference on November 19 Místico announced that he was not ready to return to the ring and vacated the CMLL World Welterweight Championship.[67]

Místico returned to the ring on January 13, 2015, during the first day of theFantastica Mania 2015 tour inOsaka, Japan. He teamed withJyushin Thunder Liger in a tag team match, where they were defeated byGedo and Pólvora.[68] Místico worked the entire tour opposite Pólvora,[69] culminating in a singles match between the two on January 19, where Místico was victorious.[70][71] Upon his return to Mexico, Místico formed a new stable named Sky Team with Valiente and Volador Jr.[72] On February 13, Sky Team defeatedLos Guerreros Laguneros (Euforia, Niebla Roja and Último Guerrero) to win the CMLL World Trios Championship.[73] In January 2016, Místico returned to Japan for theFantastica Mania 2016 tour, during which he main evented three of the six shows.[74][75][76] Back in CMLL, Místico won the2016Torneo Increíble de Parejas, when he and Mephisto defeated Carístico (the original Místico) andCibernético in the finals on April 29.[77]

The following January, Místico again traveled to Japan to take part inFantastica Mania 2017.[78] For the 2017Torneo Nacional de Parejas Increíbles, Místico was paired with Negro Casas, long time rival of both versions of Místico. In the first round they defeated Ripper andTitán, but lost to Valiente and Último Guerrero in the second round.[79] By virtue of being part of the CMLL World Trios Champions, Místico qualified for the 2017Universal Championship tournament. In the first round he defeated one-third of the Mexican National Trios Champions, Mephisto, but lost to CMLL World Light Heavyweight Champion Niebla Roja in the second round.[80]

Místico and Dragon Lee joined forces to compete in CMLL's 2018 "Brothers tag team tournament" during theFantastica Mania 2018 tour. The Muñoz brothers defeatedEl Cuatrero andSansón in the first round, but lost to Último Guerrero and Gran Guerrero in the finals.[81] Místico and Mephisto once again teamed up for the 2018Torneo Nacional de Parejas Increíbles, defeatingSoberano Jr. andHechicero in the first round, Gran Guerrero and Niebla Roja in the second round, but lost to Último Guerrero and Volador Jr. in the semi-final match.[82] After 1,234 days as CMLL World Trios Champions,[83] and 10 successful title defenses,[84] Místico participated in his sixth Fantastica Mania tour as CMLL and NJPW held theFantastica Mania 2019 tour. During the 8 show tour, Místico worked opposite Carístico on several nights, as well as competing in the CMLL family tag team tournament.[85] On August 25, 2021, Místico announced his departure from the promotion after eleven years, and would be known as Dralístico going forward (aportmanteau of his previous ring names).[86]

Independent circuit (2017–2018)

In August, Místico took part inWar of the Worlds UK, a tour co-produced by CMLL, NJPW,Revolution Pro Wrestling (RPW) andRing of Honor (ROH) in the United Kingdom.[87] During the tour's first event on August 18, Místico teamed with NJPW wrestlerJushin Thunder Liger and ROH wrestlerDelirious to unsuccessfully challengeDalton Castle andThe Boys for theROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship.[88] Místico made an appearance forThe Crash Lucha Libre on January 12, 2018, as part of CMLL/The Crash collaboration. Místico andRey Horus lost toPenta 0M in a three-way match.[89]

Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (2021–2023)

On September 4, 2021, it was announced that Dralístico had joinedLa Facción Ingobernable, alongside his father and his brothers.[90] On October 9, atHéroes Inmortales XIV, Dralístico made his debut forLucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA), when he and Dragon Lee challengedLos Lucha Bros (Fénix andPentagón Jr.) for theAAA World Tag Team Championship, after they had retained the title overJinetes del Aire (Hijo del Vikingo andLaredo Kid).[91] In December 2023, Dralístico announced that he had left AAA and would be working as an independent talent in Mexico.[92]

All Elite Wrestling / Ring of Honor (2022–present)

In late 2022, Dralístico began to appear in AAA's U.S. partner promotionsAll Elite Wrestling (AEW) and its sister promotionRing of Honor (ROH), aligning himself with Rush as part ofLa Facción Ingobernable (LFI).[93] On March 31, 2023, atSupercard of Honor, Dralístico and Rush took part in a "Reach for the Sky"ladder match for the vacantROH World Tag Team Championship, which was won by theLucha Brothers.[94] On April 7 atBattle of the Belts VI, Dralístico unsuccessfully challengedOrange Cassidy for theAEW International Championship.[95] In November 2023, it was announced that Dralístico had signed with AEW to a four-year deal.[96] On November 18 atFull Gear, Dralístico and Rush competed in afour-way tag teamladder match for theAEW World Tag Team Championship, but failed to win.[97]

On September 28, 2024, on theCollision edition ofGrand Slam, Dralístico was defeated byHologram in athree-way match, involvingThe Beast Mortos. After the match, Dralístico, Rush, and Mortos attacked Hologram, with Mortos subsequently joining LFI.[98]

Personal life

Carlos Muñoz González was born in 1991 in Tala, Jalisco, Mexico,[2] son of Arturo Muñoz Sánchez, a professional wrestler better known under the ring names Toro Blanco, Poder Boriqua, Poder Mexico, Comandante Pierroth,[99] and La Bestia del Ring over the years.[100] Both Muñoz's older and younger brother would also grow up to become professional wrestlers, with the oldest of the brothers, William, making his wrestling debut in 2008 and later becoming known as "Rush".[101][102] His younger brother made his debut in November 2013, adopting the nameDragon Lee that he had used early in his career.[103][104] Muñoz's uncles are also professional wrestlers, known as Franco Columbo, Pit Bull I and Pit Bull II, and all had a hand in training him prior to his debut.[1][3]
