TheDepartment of Economic Development was thedepartment of theSouth African government responsible foreconomic policy,economic planning andeconomic development. It was established in 2009 after the election of PresidentJacob Zuma.
From 2009 to 2019, theMinister of Economic Development wasEbrahim Patel and his deputy isMadala Masuku. In the 2011/12 budget the department had a budget ofR595 million and a staff complement of 45 civil servants.[3]
