Chinyalisaur Airport, also known asMaa Ganga Airport andDharasu Airport orBharkot Airport, is located inChinyalisaur ofUttarkashi district in theIndian state ofUttarakhand. The airport is situated 35 kilometres away fromUttarkashi and 85 kilometers fromNew Tehri on the banks of theBhagirathi River.

Civil aviation usage

The airport was initially constructed to cater to the needs of tourist and pilgrim traffic to the region, but lay unused as air charter companies did not start operations to the area.

Military usage as ALG

TheIndian Air Force also uses the airport as anAdvanced Landing Ground (ALG).[2]

As of October 2024, it was reported that the IAF andMoD was in an advanced stage of talks with the State Government to take over or operate from 3 civilian airports, including theGauchar,Pithoragarh Airport and Dharasu Airports. The IAF has plans to establish an airstrip in theSpiti region as well. All the airstrips are capable and have demonstrated to handle operations of theC-130Jspecial operations aircraft.[3]
