Balsa is a lightweightemail client written inC for theGNOME desktop environment.
Balsa has a graphical front end, support forMIME attachments coming and going, directly supportsPOP3 andIMAP protocols. It has a spell checker and direct support forPGP andGPG for encryption. It has some basic filtering capabilities, and natively supports several email storage protocols.[2] It also has some internationalization support, including Japanese fonts.
It builds on top of these other open source packages:GNOME,libtool, libESMTP,aspell, andgmime. It also can optionally uselibgtkhtml for HTML rendering,libkrb5 forGSS-API, andopenldap forLDAP functionality. It can optionally be configured to usegpg-error andgpgme libraries.
Balsa is packaged for a wide range ofLinux distributions, including Arch Linux, Debian, Fedora, openSUSE, Slackware and Ubuntu, as well as for FreeBSD.[3]
This particular e-mail client does indeed have the familiar feel of one of the greatest e-mail clients available (Eudora) and is simple to install, use, and manage.
