Athrotaxidoideae is a subfamily of conifers in the Cupressaceae group (sometimes called the cypress family). There is one extant genus known asAthrotaxis. There is an extinct genus known asAthrotaxites that belongs to this subfamily which existed during theCretaceous.[1] Genetic studies show that athrotaxidoids might be close relatives of theredwood family.[2]
