Anthony Rubén Lozano Colón (born 25 April 1993), nicknamedChoco, is a Honduran professionalfootballer who plays as aforward forLiga MX clubSantos Laguna andcaptains theHonduras national team.

Club career

Early career

Born inYoro, Lozano made his debut in theLiga Nacional de Fútbol de Honduras at the age of only 15,[3] appearing forC.D. Olimpia againstC.D.S. Vida on 11 January 2009.[4] He scored his first goals on 21 February 2010, ahat-trick in theClausura tournament 6–0 win overC.D. Victoria.[5]

In August 2010, Lozano spent time training withTottenham Hotspur'sreserve team, impressing managerHarry Redknapp.[6][7] He was expected to stay with theNorth London club, but the deal never went through due to economic reasons; the fact that he was underage also played a part in the final outcome.[8]

Lozano's playing style was compared to that of his compatriotCarlo Costly.[9]

Valencia B

On 11 August 2011, Lozano moved to Spain and signed withValencia CF on a one-year loan,[10][11] but was immediately loaned toCD Alcoyano in thesame community, in theSegunda División.[12] He made his official debut on 3 September, as a second-halfsubstitute in the 1–0 away loss againstUD Las Palmas.[13]

Lozano spent the2012–13 season withValencia's reserves in theSegunda División B.[14]

Return to Olimpia

Lozano was Olimpia's top scorer in the2014–15 campaign, contributing 26 goals in 38 matches.[15] On 6 August 2015, he returned to Spain and its second division by agreeing to a one-year loan deal withCD Tenerife,[16] which was extended on 9 July of the following year.[17] He was awarded thePlayer of the Month award for May, after helping his team reachthe play-offs.[18]

Barcelona B

On 7 July 2017, an agreement betweenFC Barcelona and Olimpia for Lozano was confirmed by the latter's vice president Osman Madrid,[19] which saw the player become the first Honduran to represent theCatalans.[20] He was assigned totheir reserves in the second tier, and in the first game ofthe season he scored once and provided anassist againstReal Valladolid (2–1, away).[21]

Girona

On 30 January 2018, Lozano joinedLa Liga sideGirona FC for a fee of €1.7 million.[22][23] He made his debut in the competition 12 days later, featuring 21 minutes in the 1–0 away loss toSevilla FC,[24] and scored his first goal on 3 March – also from the bench – to help the visitors to defeatVillarreal CF 2–0.[25]

Lozano was given a directred card late into the 2–1 home win overRayo Vallecano on 27 October 2018, due to a tackle onSanti Comesaña from behind.[26][27] He scored the equaliser againstAtlético Madrid the following 9 January, cancelling outAntoine Griezmann in a 1–1 draw in the first leg of theround of 16 of theCopa del Rey at theEstadi Montilivi;[28] it was his second competitive goal for the club, after failing to the find the net for almost a year.[29] He once again scored in the cup when Girona facedReal Madrid in the quarter-finals,[30] in the process becoming the fourth player from his country to achieve the feat against that opposition.[31]

Cádiz

On 1 September 2019, Lozano was loaned toCádiz CF of the Spanish second tier for one year.[32] He scored his first goal for the team later that month, in a 2–1 away win againstUD Almería.[33] He added a further nine until the end ofthe campaign – second-best in the squad behindÁlex Fernández's 13 – as his team returned to the top flight after 14 years.[34][35]

Cádiz exercised their option to buy on 22 July 2020, and Lozano signed a permanent three-year contract.[36] On 17 October, he scored the only goal in a victory over Real Madrid at theAlfredo Di Stéfano Stadium, the first ever away against that adversary.[37]

Lozano scored his first hat-trick in the Spanish main division on 26 October 2021, in a 3–3 draw at Villarreal.[38]

Getafe

On 1 July 2023, Lozano joinedGetafe CF on a three-year deal, as afree agent.[39] He made his official debut on 13 August in the opening fixture ofthe season, coming off the bench for his former teammateCarles Aleñá in a 0–0 home draw against Barcelona.[40] He scored his first goal on 1 November in the 12–0 away win over amateursCF Tardienta in thefirst round of the domestic cup, adding four assists.[41]

In February 2024, having totalled just 88 minutes in the league, Lozano was loaned to fellow top-tier Almería for the remainder of the campaign.[42][43] He scored his first goal on 21 April, equalising an eventual 2–1 home defeat to Villarreal.[44]

Santos Laguna

On 12 July 2024, Lozano left Spain after nine years and moved toLiga MX sideSantos Laguna.[45] He played his first game four days later in a 1–0 loss away toAtlas FC.[46] He scored his first competitive goal for them on 9 August in theLeagues Cup, his side's first of the tournament in a 1–1 draw withFC Cincinnati (6–5 loss onpenalties in theround of 32).[47]

Lozano suffered anAnterior cruciate ligament injury to his right knee on 26 October 2025, being ruled out for an estimated six to eight months.[48]

International career

Lozano scored 11 goals for theHonduras under-17s, including four in the2009 CONCACAF Championship which qualified the national team tothat year'sFIFA U-17 World Cup, where he netted in the 3–1 loss againstGermany.[49] He made hissenior debut in August 2011, replacing Costly (who scored both goals in the 2–0 win) in afriendly win overVenezuela.[50]

Lozano also represented the country at the2012 and2016 Summer Olympics. He scored twice in thelatter tournament, helpingthe nation to the semi-finals in Brazil.[51][52]

Personal life

Lozano's half-brother,Luis Ramos, was also a footballer. Amidfielder, he played several years inSlovakia and Hungary.[9]

Lozano married Alessa Gámez, with the couple later welcoming a daughter.[53] In 2023, he began a relationship with Joselinn Silver, a Honduran model, beauty queen and entrepreneur;[54] their wedding was held in theDominican Republic in December 2024.[55]
