Anthimus VI of Constantinople (Greek:Ἄνθιμος; bornIoannides; 1782 – 18 October 1878) was theEcumenical Patriarch of Constantinople for three periods from 1845 to 1848, from 1853 to 1855 and from 1871 to 1873.[1][2] He was born in Kutali Island in theSea of Marmara and died inKandilli.
Before becoming a Patriarch, Anthimus was a monk at theEsphigmenou monastery inMount Athos and becamemetropolitan bishop ofSerres (1829),Prussa (1833) andEphesus (1837). In 1845, he expanded theKatholikon of the monastery, adding twochapels, avestibule and aporch to it.
