Andrea Vavassori (Italian pronunciation:[anˈdrɛːavavasˈsoːri];[1][2] born 5 May 1995) is an Italian professionaltennis player. He has a career highATP doubles ranking of world No. 6, achieved on 14 October 2024, and a singles ranking of world No. 128, achieved on 19 June 2023. Vavassori is a mixed doublesGrand Slam champion withSara Errani, lifting the titles at the2024 US Open, at the2025 French Open, and at the2025 US Open. He also reached three major finals withSimone Bolelli at the2024 and the2025 Australian Open, and at the2024 French Open. Vavassori was part of theItalian team that won the2024 and2025 Davis Cups.
He won his maiden doubles title at the2021 Sardegna Open partneringLorenzo Sonego.
He qualified at the2022 Wimbledon Championships making his Grand Slam singles debut.[3] He then got eliminated in the first round by the 23rd seedFrances Tiafoe in straight sets losing 6–4, 6–4, 6–4.
He qualified in singles for the2023 Córdoba Open. He won his second doubles title withAndrea Pellegrino at the2023 Chile Open.[4] As a result, he reached the top 50 in the doubles rankings on 20 March 2023.
At the2023 Grand Prix Hassan II he reached his first ATP singles quarterfinal as a qualifier defeating eight seedNicolás Jarry andJaume Munar. At the same tournament in doubles he won his third doubles title withMarcelo Demoliner.[5]
Ranked No. 164 he qualified for his first Masters 1000 at the2023 Mutua Madrid Open and defeatedAndy Murray in the first round.[6]
Following the2023 Sardegna Open where he received a wildcard, he reached the top 150 at No. 145 on 8 May 2023.He made his debut for the second time at a Major, at the2023 French Open after qualifying into the main draw.[7] After saving five match points, he overcame world No. 37 and 31st seedMiomir Kecmanović in 5 hours and 10 minutes, the second longest match of the season after Kokkinakis against Murray at the Australian Open, for his first Grand Slam win.[8][9][10] He lost to fellow first time Major qualifierGenaro Alberto Olivieri in the second round.
He made his ATP grass court debut at the2023 Halle Open as a lucky loser after competing in qualifying as an alternate. At the same tournament, in doubles, he reached the final with new partner, compatriotSimone Bolelli.[11]
Partnering with Simone Bolelli, he reached his first Grand Slam final at theAustralian Open. They overcame unseeded pair ofYannick Hanfmann andDominik Koepfer in three sets.[12] They lost to second seeded pairRohan Bopanna andMatthew Ebden in straight sets.[13]
He qualified for theArgentina Open defeatingThiago Seyboth Wild and seventh seedLaslo Djere to reach his second ATP singles quarterfinal.[14][15] The win over Djere, the world No. 35, was his best career win ranking wise and biggest in his career thus far.[16][17] He lost to world No. 2Carlos Alcaraz in straight sets, in just his second match against a top-10 player.[18]
At theMiami Open he also reached the singles main draw after qualifying, making his debut at this Masters and recorded his first round win overPedro Cachin but lost to second seed and eventual championJannik Sinner.[19] Ranked No. 156, he entered the main draw at theBarcelona Open as a lucky loser directly into the second round replacing seventh seedKaren Khachanov after his late withdrawal.Following theItalian Open where he made the semifinals with Bolleli, he reached the top 20 in the doubles rankings on 20 May 2024.[20]
At theFrench Open, he reached his second Major final in doubles with Bolleli, defeating third seedsRajeev Ram andJoe Salisbury, and then second seeds Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden. As a result, he reached the top 10 in the doubles rankings on 10 June 2024.[21] In the grass season the pair won their first grass court title together, at the2024 Halle Open.[22][23]
On his debut, he qualified for theParis Olympics in singles and doubles. In singles, he recorded his first win at the Games, as an alternate, overPedro Martinez.[24]
PartneringSara Errani, he won the mixed doubles title at theUS Open, defeatingTaylor Townsend andDonald Young in the final.[25][26]Vavassori and Bolelli won theChina Open in October, defeating third seedsHarri Heliövaara andHenry Patten in the final. As a result he reached a new career-high ATP doubles ranking of World No. 6 on 14 October 2024. The duo Vavassori and Bolelli won the2024 ATP Fans’ Favourite doubles team award.[27][28][29]
Vavassori and Bolelli won theAdelaide International, defeatingKevin Krawietz andTim Pütz in the final.[30] The pair reached the final at theAustralian Open, losing to sixth seedsHarri Heliövaara andHenry Patten.[31][32]
Ranked No. 316, he qualified for the singles main draw of the ATP 5002025 ABN AMRO Open where he upset former Rotterdam championFélix Auger-Aliassime following his retirement from the match.[33] He lost again to Carlos Alcaraz.[34]
At the2026 Adelaide International Vavassori qualified for the main draw, having entered the qualifying competition as an alternate. He upset world No. 41Gabriel Diallo in the first round.[35]
