Ammouliani (Greek:Αμμουλιανή[amuʎaˈni],Ammoulianí), also known asAmoliani, is an island located in theChalkidiki regional unit,Greece, 120 km (75 mi) fromThessaloniki. Administratively it is part of themunicipal unit ofStagira-Akanthos.
Until the early 1900s, Ammouliani was a dependency ofVatopedi Monastery ofMount Athos. In 1925, the island was given to the refugees' families who had come from islands ofPropontis (Marmaras Sea), after theAsia Minor Disaster.[2] The population of the island grew quickly and today the island has over 500 residents. It has become a tourist destination, with frequent transport from the mainland.
