Amácio Mazzaropi (April 9, 1912 – June 13, 1981[1]) was a Brazilianactor andfilmmaker.[2][3]
A comic performer from a circus background, he became popular in Brazil with his character Jeca Tatu, a portrayal of theCaipira of the 20th century,[4][5] originally created by the writerMonteiro Lobato. Mazzaropi debuted in cinema in 1951, withSai da Frente. In 1958 he established his own film studio, PAM Filmes, producing and distributing his own movies.[6]
He died inSão Paulo on June 13, 1981, ofbone marrowcancer.
