Alexandra E. Witt (born April 9, 1961) is an American television news journalist based inNew York City who currently hosts the television news programAlex Witt Reports weekends from 1 pm to 4 pm onMS NOW, where she previously hostedMSNBC Live andMorning Joe First Look. Witt joined MSNBC in January 1999 and is the network's longest-running anchor.[1]
Witt was born inPasadena, California, and grew up in theHancock Park neighborhood ofLos Angeles.[2] Witt's father is Dr. Charles B. Witt, a notedthoracic surgeon in Los Angeles. Witt graduated from theMarlborough School for Girls in Los Angeles and theUniversity of Southern California, where she majored injournalism andinternational relations.[3]
Witt first served as a field producer for theToday Show inBurbank, California. Her first on-air job was atKCBA inSalinas, California. She later worked forKCBS-TV,KNBC-TV, andKABC-TV, each of which are located in Los Angeles. She served as a reporter atKCBA from 1990 to 1992 andWNYW-TV from 1996 to 1998. In 1999, Witt joined MSNBC as an anchor. She hosted the programWeekends with Alex Witt, which was later rebranded toAlex Witt Reports.
Witt is married to TV producer Bill Sorensen.[4] Witt has noted on-air, whenPolitico made the thesis, that she is related toGeorge Washington. She is actually a cousin, seven generations removed to George Washington through Bailey Washington, her cousin and contemporary of President Washington. She is a member of the National Society of Washington Family Descendants. She is a co-founder of the band Mrs. Robinson.[5]
