Alex Martínez Beltrán (born August 25, 1991) is a former Uruguayan professionalfootballer. Currently he serves as an assistant coach forD.C. United ofMajor League Soccer.
Born inMontevideo,Uruguay, Martínez moved to theUnited States at the age of 9 and attendedHigh Point University where he played college soccer for theHigh Point Panthers from 2010 to 2011.[1] He then was recruited to play for theNC State Wolfpack where he played till 2013.[1] He also played forCarolina Dynamo of theUSL Premier Development League in 2013.[1][2]
On January 21, 2014, Martínez was selected in the third round of the2014 MLS SuperDraft bySporting Kansas City and was officially signed by theMajor League Soccer club on March 4, 2014.[1] He then made his professional debut for Sporting on March 15, 2014, againstFC Dallas when he came on as a 75th-minute substitute as Sporting drew 1–1.[3] He was released by the club on June 30, 2014.[4]
In August 2014, Martinez signed withOrange County Blues FC ofUnited Soccer League.[5] After the Blues' season ended, Martinez signed a short-term contract withCarolina RailHawks of theNorth American Soccer League.[6]

Martinez signed withUnited Soccer League expansion sideCharlotte Independence in March 2015.[7]
After his retirement from playing, Martínez served as theCharlotte FC Academy's head of recruitment from 2020–2022 & Academy's U18 Head Coach (Responsible for three Academy players signing First Team Contracts and one signing Crown Legacy Contract). In March 2023, Martínez was named an assistant coach forUSL Championship clubBirmingham Legion. On January 23, 2024, Martínez was announced as an assistant coach forD.C. United inMajor League Soccer.[8]
He is the younger brother ofEnzo Martínez who currently plays forBirmingham Legion FC.
