The State Route 56 (SR 56) is a 27.696-mile-long (44.572 km)state highway completely withinWashington County in the southwestern part of the U.S. state ofAlabama. The western terminus of the highway is at theMississippi state line at anintersection withU.S. Route 45 (US 45) andMississippi Highway 42 (MS 42). The eastern terminus of the highway is atWagarville, where it intersectsUS 43.
SR 56 was part ofUS 84 until 1958, when theCoffeeville Bridge opened over theTombigbee River.[citation needed]
