Al Ahli SC, also known asAl Ahli Tripoli, is a Libyan basketball team based inTripoli. It is thebasketball section of themulti-sports club with the same name. Al Ahli has won theLibyan Basketball League eight times, with its last title being in 2024, as well as five Libyan Cups and two Super Cups.[1]

Al Ahli made its debut in theBasketball Africa League (BAL) in the2025 season, and immediately won their first championship, their first continental title.

The home arena of the team is the Great Hall, which is a 15,000-seater in the city of Tripoli.[2]

History

The team was founded in 1950.[3]

Al Ahli has competed in theArab Club Basketball Championship three times, and reached the quarterfinals on two occasions, in 2015 and 2019.

As the champions of the 2023–24 Libyan League, Al Ahli played in theRoad to BAL in the end of 2024. On November 9, 2024, they qualified for the2025 BAL season, by defeatingABC Fighters in the semifinal.[4] In the league season, they finished undefeated in the group phase, and then wen on to win the BAL championship, after defeatingPetro de Luanda in thefinal.[5]Fouad Abou Chakra won theCoach of the Year Award, whileJean Jacques Boissy was named theleague MVP.[6] In the 2024–25 season domestic season, however, Tripoli lost toAl Ahly Benghazi and thus was not eligible to defend its BAL title in the 2025–26 season.[7]

As the African continental champions, Al Ahli played in the2025 FIBA Intercontinental Cup inSingapore, and won the bronze medal, becoming the first African team to finish on the podium.[8]

Various internationally renowned players have played for Al Ahli, includingTerrell Stoglin,[9]Walter Hodge[10] andAnas Mahmoud.[11]
