State Question 832

June 16, 2026
Oklahoma $15 Minimum Wage Initiative
Elections in Oklahoma
Government

Oklahoma Question 832, the$15 Minimum Wage Initiative, is aninitiated state statute that will appear on the June 16, 2026, ballot inOklahoma. If passed, the initiative would incrementally increase the state'sminimum wage from $7.25 to $12 in 2027, $13.50 in 2028 and $15 in 2029, with further increases permitted to adjust forinflation. It would also remove exemptions from the Oklahoma Minimum Wage Act that meant certain groups were not legally considered 'employees'.[1]

Background

[edit]

As of 2025,Oklahoma's minimum wage is $7.25, in line with thefederal minimum wage.[2] Question 832 would raise this to $12 in 2027, increasing by $1.50 for the next two years. It would also allow for future minimum wage increases based on changes to inflation.[3][4]

Currently, exceptions in the Oklahoma Minimum Wage Act mean that many workers[a] are not legally considered to be 'employees'. The measure would remove these exceptions.[1]

Supreme Court petition

[edit]

In late 2023, the State Chamber of Oklahoma and theOklahoma Farm Bureau requested that theOklahoma Supreme Court issue a decision on the legal validity of State Question 832. The State Chamber claimed the initiative was "legally insufficient for submission to the voters".[5]

On February 3, 2024, the Supreme Court ruled that the initiative "does not clearly or manifestly violate either theOklahoma orUnited States Constitution", meaning Question 832 supporters could continue to gather the required signatures for an initiated ballot measure.[5]
