Carlos Alcaraz defeatedPablo Carreño Busta in the final, 6–3, 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Barcelona Open. Alcaraz saved two match points en route to the title, in the semifinals againstAlex de Minaur. With the win, on 25 April 2022, Alcaraz entered the top-10 in rankings for the first time in his career, becoming the youngest man to do so sinceRafael Nadal made his own top-10 debut exactly 17 years earlier on 25 April 2005.[1]
Nadal was the reigning champion,[2] but withdrew before the tournament to recover from a rib injury.[3]
This tournament marked the final professional appearance of former world No. 5Tommy Robredo, who made hisATP Tour debut at the same tournament in1999.[4][5]
