The2010 Kansas gubernatorial election was held on November 2, 2010. Incumbent GovernorMark Parkinson, who assumed office when previous GovernorKathleen Sebelius was sworn in as theUnited States Secretary of Health and Human Services on April 28, 2009, declined to seek election to a full term. SenatorSam Brownback, who unsuccessfullyran for president in 2008, emerged as theRepublican nominee, facing off against DemocraticState SenatorTom Holland, who was unopposed for his party's nomination. Brownback defeated Holland in alandslide to become the 46thGovernor of Kansas. As of2022, this is the last gubernatorial election in Kansas where the winner received a majority of the vote.
