The2010–11 WHL season was the 45th season of theWestern Hockey League (WHL). The regular season began on September 24, 2010, and ended on March 20, 2011. The 2010Subway Super Series, featuring Team WHL versus Team Russia, took place mid-season from November 17 to 18, 2010. TheSaskatoon Blades won their fourthScotty Munro Memorial Trophy for best regular season record. The playoffs began on March 25, 2011, and concluded on May 13. TheKootenay Ice won theEd Chynoweth Cup for the third time, defeating thePortland Winterhawks in the championship series.[1] This earned Kootenay a berth in the2011 Memorial Cup tournament.

On January 15, 2011, theSpokane Chiefs hosted theKootenay Ice in the WHL's first ever outdoor game, played atAvista Stadium.[2] On February 21, the defending championCalgary Hitmen hosted theRegina Pats atMcMahon Stadium for a second outdoor game, this one in conjunction with theNational Hockey League's2011 Heritage Classic.[3]

The 2010–11 season was the first to be featured in anEA SportsNHL video game, with all teams and rosters appearing inNHL 11.[4]

Subway Super Series

TheSubwaySuper Series was a six-game series featuring four teams: three from theCanadian Hockey League (CHL)—one team from each of the QMJHL, the OHL, and the WHL—versusRussia's national junior hockey team.

The 2010 series was held in six cities acrossCanada. The series began on November 8, 2010, and concluded on November 18, 2010. Both Western Hockey League games were held inBritish Columbia.
