The1996 West Virginia Senate election was held on November 5, 1996, to determine which party would control theWest Virginia Senate for the following two years in the73rd West Virginia legislature. Half out of the 34 seats in theWest Virginia Senate were up for election. Prior to the election, 26 seats were held byDemocrats and 8 seats were held byRepublicans. The general election saw Republicans flip a single seat, meaning that Democrats retained their majority in the State Senate.[1][2]
