Democratic incumbentZell Miller defeatedRepublicanJohnny Isakson (who later became his successor as U.S. Senator) after defeating formerAtlanta MayorAndrew Young and future GovernorRoy Barnes in the primary.[1][2] Miller campaigned on the concept of term limits and pledged to seek only a single term as governor.
