Nancy Richey defeatedAnn Jones in the final, 5–7, 6–4, 6–1 to win the women's singles tennis title at the1968 French Open.[1][2] It was her firstFrench title and second (and last)major title overall, after the1967 Australian Championships. This was the firstGrand Slam tournament to be open to professional players, marking a period in tennis history known as theOpen Era.

Françoise Dürr was the defending champion, but was defeated in the fourth round byGail Sherriff.
