The1958 NBA draft was the 12th annualdraft of theNational Basketball Association (NBA). The draft was held on April 22, 1958, before the1958–59 season. In thisdraft, eight NBA teams took turns selecting amateur U.S.college basketball players. In each round, the teams select in reverse order of their win–loss record in theprevious season. The draft consisted of 17 rounds comprising 88 players selected.

Elgin Baylor fromSeattle University was selectedfirst overall by theMinneapolis Lakers. Baylor went on to win theRookie of the Year Award in his first season.[2]Guy Rodgers fromTemple University was selected before the draft asPhiladelphia Warriors'territorial pick. Three players from this draft, Elgin Baylor, Guy Rodgers andHal Greer, have been inducted to theBasketball Hall of Fame.[3]Frank Howard fromOhio State University was selected in the third round by thePhiladelphia Warriors, but he opted for a professionalbaseball career and eventually playing 16 successful seasons in theMajor League Baseball (MLB).[4][5]
