The1956 United States presidential election in New Mexico took place on November 6, 1956. All 48 states were part of the1956 United States presidential election. State voters chose four electors to represent them in theElectoral College, which voted forPresident andVice President.
New Mexico was won by incumbent PresidentDwight D. Eisenhower by a 16-point landslide. Running against Eisenhower was formerGovernor of IllinoisAdlai Stevenson, whom Eisenhower had earlier defeated for thePresidency in1952.[2] This election reflected one of the last election cycles where theDemocratic Party still had their postCivil War political domination of theDeep South. This was also the last United States presidential election when either major party nominee was born in the nineteenth century.
