The Republicanprimary election was held on September 5, 1916.Incumbent lieutenant governorEdward Dithmar received a majority of the votes (54.42%) againstWisconsin National GuardColonel andcandidate for lieutenant governor in the previous electionMarshall Cousins, and was thus elected as the nominee for the general election.[1]
