The1912 United States presidential election in Nebraska took place on November 5, 1912, as part of the1912 United States presidential election. Voters chose eight representatives, or electors, to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.

Nebraska was won byPrinceton University PresidentWoodrow Wilson (DVirginia), running withgovernor of IndianaThomas R. Marshall, with 43.69% of the popular vote, against the26th president of the United StatesTheodore Roosevelt (PNew York), running withgovernor of CaliforniaHiram Johnson, with 29.13% of the popular vote and the27th president of the United StatesWilliam Howard Taft (ROhio), running withColumbia University PresidentNicholas Murray Butler, with 21.74% of the popular vote.[1] This was the first time in history that a nationally-successful Democratic presidential nominee carried Nebraska, as well as only the third occasion that any Democratic nominee carried the state.

Primaries

The first state-wide presidential preference primaries were held in Nebraska on 19, 1912, alongside primaries for other federal and state offices. The Democratic Party ballot includedChamp Clark,Judson Harmon, R. G. Ross, andWoodrow Wilson. The People's Independent Party ballot included Wilson. TheProhibition Party ballot includedEugene W. Chafin. The Republican Party ballot includedRobert M. La Follette,Theodore Roosevelt, R. G. Ross, andWilliam Howard Taft. TheSocialist Party of America ballot includedEugene V. Debs.[2]

Delegates were allocated by congressional district, with each district awarding two delegates, and an additional four delegates elected at-large.[3]

A primary for the Democratic presidential candidate was held in Nebraska on April 19, 1912.[2] Clark and Wilson were endorsed byWilliam Jennings Bryan as they were progressive candidates.[4] Clark won the popular vote and five of the six congressional districts, and therefore 14 of the delegates. Harmon won a single district, gaining two delegates. Wilson failed to win the at-large or any district votes.[5]
