Apresidential election was held inPennsylvania on November 3, 1908, as part of the1908 United States presidential election, throughout 46 states (Arizona andNew Mexico were still territories that would participate in thenext election). This was the first presidential election in whichOklahoma participated. Voters chose 34 representatives, or electors to theElectoral College, who voted forpresident andvice president.
Pennsylvania overwhelmingly voted for theRepublican nominees,Secretary of WarWilliam Howard Taft ofOhio and his running mateJames S. Sherman ofNew York. They defeated theDemocratic nominees, formerU.S. RepresentativeWilliam Jennings Bryan ofNebraska and his running mateJohn W. Kern ofIndiana. Taft won the state by a landslide margin of 23.43%.
Bryan had previously lost Pennsylvania toWilliam McKinley in both1896 and1900.
