Mississippi was won by GeneralWinfield Scott Hancock (D–Pennsylvania), running with formerRepresentativeWilliam Hayden English, with 64.71% of the popular vote, againstRepresentativeJames A. Garfield (R-Ohio), running with the 10th chairman of theNew York State Republican Executive CommitteeChester A. Arthur, with 29.76% of the vote andrepresentativeJames B. Weaver (G–Iowa), running withBarzillai J. Chambers, a formerConfederate, with 4.95% of the popular vote.[2]
