On election day, November 3, 1863,Republican nomineeCharles D. Sherwood won the election by a margin of 6,907 votes against his opponentDemocratic nomineeJames S. Norris, thereby retaining Republican control over the office of lieutenant governor. Sherwood was sworn in as the 4thlieutenant governor of Minnesota on January 11, 1864.[2]
