Apresidential election was held inSouth Carolina on December 6, 1836 as part of the1836 United States presidential election.[1] The state legislature chose 11 representatives, or electors to theElectoral College, who voted forPresident andVice President.
South Carolina cast 11 electoral votes for theWhig candidateWillie P. Mangum. These electors were chosen by theSouth Carolina General Assembly, the state legislature, rather than by popular vote.[2]
