The1834 Illinois lieutenant gubernatorial election was held on August 4, 1834, in order to elect thelieutenant governor of Illinois.Democratic candidate andincumbentspeaker of the Illinois House of RepresentativesAlexander M. Jenkins defeatedDemocratic candidate James Evans andDemocratic-Republican nomineeWilliam Beatty Archer.

General election

On election day, August 4, 1834,Democratic candidateAlexander M. Jenkins won the election by a margin of 5,186 votes against his foremost opponent and fellowDemocratic candidate James Evans, thereby retaining Democratic control over the office of lieutenant governor. Jenkins was sworn in as the 6thlieutenant governor of Illinois on December 3, 1834.[1]
