Agubernatorial election was held inVirginia on December 8, 1821.[4] The incumbentgovernor of VirginiaThomas Mann Randolph Jr. defeated theU.S. representative fromVirginia's 13th congressional districtBurwell Bassett.[1]

The election was conducted by theVirginia General Assembly in joint session.[5] Randolph was elected with a majority on the first ballot.[1]
