The1820 United States presidential election in New York took place between November 1 to December 6, 1820, as part of the1820 United States presidential election. The state legislature chose 29 representatives, or electors to theElectoral College, who voted forPresident andVice President.
During this election,New York cast its 29 electoral votes toDemocratic Republican candidate and incumbent PresidentJames Monroe.[1]
Effectively, the 1820 presidential election was an election with no campaign, since there was no serious opposition to Monroe and Tompkins.[citation needed] In fact, they won all the electoral votes barring one fromNew Hampshire, which was cast forSecretary of StateJohn Quincy Adams.[1]
