Delaware cast three electoral votes for theFederalist candidateCharles Cotesworth Pinckney over theDemocratic-Republican candidateJames Madison. These electors were elected by theDelaware General Assembly, the state legislature, rather than by popular vote. The three electoral votes forVice president were cast for Pinckney'srunning mateRufus King fromNew York.[1]
