The1796 United States presidential election in Georgia took place on November 4, 1796, as part of the1796 United States presidential election. The voters chose four representatives, or electors, throughplurality block voting to theElectoral College. These electors then voted forpresident andvice president.[1]
Out of 51 elector candidates, fourDemocratic-Republican electors were elected who then voted forThomas Jefferson over theFederalist candidate and incumbentVice PresidentJohn Adams. The electoral votes forvice president were, however, not cast for Jefferson's running mateAaron Burr, but forGeorge Clinton fromNew York.[2][1]
