Theualarm() function causes theSIGALRM signal to be generated for thecalling process after the number of real-time microseconds specified by theusecondsargument has elapsed. When theinterval argument is non-zero, repeated timeoutnotification occurs with a period in microseconds specified by theinterval argument. Ifthe notification signal,SIGALRM, is not caught or ignored, the calling processis terminated.
Because of scheduling delays, resumption of execution when the signal is caughtmay be delayed an arbitrary amount of time.
Interactions betweenualarm() and eitheralarm(2) orsleep(3C) are unspecified.
Theualarm() function returns the number of microseconds remaining from the previousualarm() call. If no timeouts are pending or ifualarm() hasnot previously been called,ualarm() returns0.
No errors are defined.
Theualarm() function is a simplified interface tosetitimer(2), and uses theITIMER_REAL interval timer.
