- operations on timeval structures
#include <sys/time.h>voidtimeradd(struct timeval *a,struct timeval *b,struct timeval *res);
voidtimerclear(struct timeval *tvp);
inttimercmp(struct timeval *a,struct timeval *b,CMP);
inttimerisset(struct timeval *tvp);
voidtimersub(struct timeval *a,struct timeval *b,struct timeval *res);
These macros are provided for manipulatingtimeval structures for use withgettimeofday(3C)andsettimeofday(3C) operands. The structure is defined in<sys/time.h> as:
struct timeval { long tv_sec; /* seconds since Jan. 1, 1970 */ long tv_usec; /* and microseconds */};Thetimeradd() macro adds the time information stored ina toband stores the resultingtimeval inres. The results are simplified suchthat the value ofres->tv_usec is always less than 1,000,000 (1 second).
Thetimersub() macro subtracts the time information stored inb fromaand stores the resultingtimeval inres.
Thetimerclear() macro initializestvp to midnight (0 hour) January 1st, 1970(the Epoch).
Thetimerisset() macro returns true iftvp is set to any timevalue other than the Epoch.
Thetimercmp() macro comparesa tob using the form aCMPb, whereCMP is one of<,<=,==,!=,>=, or>.
These macros are not available in function form. All of these macrosevaluate their arguments more than once. If parameters passed to these macrosare expressions with side effects, the results are undefined.
