- get or set detachstate attribute
cc –mt [flag... ]file... –lpthread [library... ]#include <pthread.h>intpthread_attr_setdetachstate(pthread_attr_t *attr,intdetachstate);
intpthread_attr_getdetachstate(const pthread_attr_t *attr,int *detachstate);
Thedetachstate attribute controls whether the thread is created in a detachedstate. If the thread is created detached, then use of the ID of the newly created thread by thepthread_detach() orpthread_join() function isan error.
Thepthread_attr_setdetachstate() andpthread_attr_getdetachstate(), respectively, set and get thedetachstate attribute intheattr object.
Thedetachstate can be set to eitherPTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED orPTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE.A value ofPTHREAD_CREATE_DETACHED causes all threads created withattr tobe in the detached state, whereas using a value ofPTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE causes allthreads created withattr to be in the joinable state. The defaultvalue of thedetachstate attribute isPTHREAD_CREATE_JOINABLE.
Upon successful completion,pthread_attr_setdetachstate() andpthread_attr_getdetachstate() return a value of0.Otherwise, an error number is returned to indicate the error.
Thepthread_attr_getdetachstate() function stores the value of thedetachstate attribute indetachstateif successful.
Thepthread_attr_setdetachstate() orpthread_attr_getdetachstate() functions may fail if:
attr ordetachstate is invalid.
