- language information
#include <langinfo.h>char *nl_langinfo(nl_itemitem);
Thenl_langinfo() function returns a pointer to a null-terminated string containing information relevantto a particular language or cultural area defined in the programs locale.The manifest constant names and values ofitem are defined by <langinfo.h>.For example:
nl_langinfo (ABDAY_1);
would return a pointer to the string “Dim” if the identified languagewas French and a French locale was correctly installed; or “Sun” ifthe identified language was English.
Ifsetlocale(3C) has not been called successfully, or if data fora supported language is either not available, or ifitem is notdefined therein, thennl_langinfo() returns a pointer to the corresponding string inthe C locale. In all locales,nl_langinfo() returns a pointer toan empty string ifitem contains an invalid setting.
Thenl_langinfo() function can be used safely in multithreaded applications, as longassetlocale(3C) is not being called to change the locale.
Seeattributes(5) for descriptions of the following attributes:
|
setlocale(3C),langinfo.h(3HEAD),nl_types.h(3HEAD),attributes(5),standards(5)
The array pointed to by the return value should not be modifiedby the program. Subsequent calls tonl_langinfo() may overwrite the array.
