Thegetloadavg() function returns the number of processes in the system run queueaveraged over various periods of time. Up tonelem samples are retrievedand assigned to successive elements ofloadavg[ ]. The system imposes a maximumof 3 samples, representing averages over the last 1, 5, and 15 minutes,respectively. TheLOADAVG_1MIN,LOADAVG_5MIN, andLOADAVG_15MIN indices, defined in <sys/loadavg.h>, can beused to extract the data from the appropriate element of theloadavg[ ] array.
Upon successful completion, the number of samples actually retrieved is returned. Ifthe load average was unobtainable,-1 is returned anderrno is setto indicate the error.
Thegetloadavg() function will fail if:
The number of elements specified is less than 0.
If the caller is in a non-global zone and the pools facilityis active, the behavior ofgetloadavg() is equivalent to that ofpset_getloadavg(3C)called withpsetid set toPS_MYID.
