- get and set driver configuration parameters
ndd [-set]driverparameter [value]
ndd gets and sets selected configuration parameters in some kernel drivers. Currently,ndd only supports the drivers that implement the TCP/IP Internet protocol family.Each driver chooses which parameters to make visible usingndd. Since theseparameters are usually tightly coupled to the implementation, they are likely tochange from release to release. Some parameters may be read-only.
Note -It is strongly encouraged that you useipadm(1M), rather thanndd, tomodify or retrieve TCP/IP Internet protocols. The currentndd command will bemade obsolete in a future release, replaced byipadm(1M). Please seeNOTESfor more information.
If thendd-set option is omitted,ndd queries the nameddriver,retrieves the value associated with the specifiedparameter, and prints it. Ifthe-set option is given,ndd passesvalue, which must be specified,down to the nameddriver which assigns it to the namedparameter.
By convention, drivers that supportndd also support a special read-onlyparameternamed ``?'' which can be used to list the parameters supported bythe driver.
Example 1 Getting Parameters Supported By The TCP Driver
To see which parameters are supported by the TCP driver, use thefollowing command:
example%ndd /dev/tcp \?
The parameter name ``?'' may need to be escaped with a backslashto prevent its being interpreted as a shell meta character.
The following command sets the value of the parameterip_forwarding in thedual stack IP driver to zero. This disables IPv4 packet forwarding.
example%ndd -set /dev/ip ip_forwarding 0
Similarly, in order to disable IPv6 packet forwarding, the value of parameterip6_forwarding
example%ndd -set /dev/ip ip6_forwarding 0

The parameters supported by each driver may change from release to release.Like programs that read/dev/kmem, user programs or shell scripts that executendd should be prepared for parameter names to change.
Theioctl() command thatndd uses to communicate with drivers is likelyto change in a future release. User programs should avoid making dependencieson it.
The use ofndd to administer Layer 2 (Data Link layer) driversis strongly discouraged as this capability is to be obsoleted in afuture release, replaced bydladm(1M). Please refer to the driver-specific man pagein section 7D of the SunOS man pages.
The use ofndd to administer the drivers that implement the TCP/IPInternet protocol family (IP/TCP/SCTP/UDP/ICMP) is strongly discouraged as this capability is tobe obsoleted in a future release, replaced byipadm. Please seeipadm(1M)for instructions for modifying and retrieving supported protocol properties.
The meanings of manyndd parameters make sense only if you understandhow the driver is implemented.
