Appearances[]
Zorro[]
Zorro is actually the secret identity of Don Diego de la Vega. After being asked to return home fromSpain by his father, Diego soon learns that his belovedLos Angeles is under the control of a dictator—Captain Enrique Monastario. However, as to not arouse any suspicion, Diego takes on the persona of a fop: an arrogant scholar who could be seen mainly as a useless and lazy clown. However, by night Diego dons his mask, cape, and sword to ride as Zorro. He is always hunted by the inept soldiers, but they can never capture him. He is loved by the people who see the outlaw as a hero, for Zorro fights corruption and tyranny. It is thanks to him that Monastario is then arrested and removed from power. However, many others would follow in Monastario's footsteps.
Zorro would also cross blades with bandits and other villains who dare to challenge him. By riding atop his very fast and intelligent black horse—Tornado—no one can catch Zorro, and no one will.
Once Upon a Time[]
Zorro never appeared on the show. He is first referenced in "Operation Mongoose Part 2", and mentioned in the episode "Leaving Storybrooke", where he is revealed to be the father ofLily Page (the daughter ofMaleficent) and is said to be able to turn himself into a dragon.
Disney Parks[]
During the show's original run, Zorro Days were held seasonally in Frontierland with appearances by Guy Williams in-character as Zorro and stunt shows taking place along the rooftops of the area. Today, theRancho del Zocalo Restaurante restaurant is partially themed to the character.
Trivia[]
- "Zorro" is the Spanish word for "fox".
- In the2009 Disney animated filmThe Princess and the Frog, one of the guests dancing with another guest dressed as a flamenco dancer is seen wearing a Zorro costume. The same guest appears during the part where Tiana and Naveen who were turned into frogs are hopping onto the table where the guest wearing the Zorro costume attempts to attack him with his sword but misses. While not named in the film, the English Audio Description, however, identifies the guest wearing said costume as Zorro.
- There is a domino mask found inPecos Bill Tall Tale Inn & Cafe inWalt Disney World'sFrontierland which is frequently misidentified as belonging to Zorro. The mask is intended to represent the similar pulp western character of theLone Ranger.
